About Hope and Beyond
A Christ-centred foundation devoted to widows, fatherless children, and vulnerable families through compassionate presence, practical support, and the healing hope found in God.
A Christ-centred response to loss, grief, and dignity
Hope and Beyond Foundation walks with widows, fatherless children, and vulnerable families through practical care, psychosocial support, spiritual encouragement, mentorship, and a steady community that refuses to let people suffer unseen.
We hold quarterly widow meetings, annual mentorship and outing days for fatherless children, group and individual counseling sessions, prayerful encouragement, and ongoing acts of provision that restore dignity, belonging, and hope.
Today the foundation walks with more than 45 widows and 50 fatherless children in and around Kiambu County, while remaining open to the wider needs of vulnerable families the Lord places along our path.
Our work is rooted in James 1:27 and Psalm 68:5 — a practical expression of God's heart for widows, orphans, and people navigating painful seasons without enough support. We steward the resources freely entrusted to us to show that God still sees, loves, and provides.
The ministry depends on the partnership of God, generous well-wishers, friends, and sponsors who choose to stand with families in seasons when emotional, spiritual, and practical support are all needed at once.
Vision, Mission & Values
A holistically empowered society where widows, orphans, and the less fortunate are integrated and live dignified lives.
To empower widows, orphans, and the less fortunate in society through practical skills training, provision of basic necessities, and psychosocial support services.
Integrity — We steward entrusted resources faithfully.
Compassion — We lead with kindness, presence, and love.
Honesty — We speak truthfully and serve transparently.
Our 5 Support Pillars
We believe real transformation happens when we address every dimension of a person's life. Our five pillars ensure holistic, dignified support.
Grief is complex. Our group counseling sessions and one-on-one support create safe spaces for widows to process their loss, rebuild their confidence, and rediscover their identity beyond their circumstances.
Rooted in Scripture, our foundation believes that lasting hope begins with God. We encourage faith through prayer, worship, and Bible-grounded teaching.
Many widows in Kenya face unfair treatment regarding succession. We connect families with legal guidance to help them understand and protect their rights.
True dignity includes provision. We provide food packages, facilitate skills training, and explore income-generating activities that empower widows toward financial independence.

Milestones in the Hope and Beyond story
The archive is organized as a gallery-style journey that helps visitors move through the ministry story in order, from the earliest acts of compassion to the seasons of counseling, provision, and celebration.
Susan's act of compassion started way back in 2014 — a porridge project for needy children and COVID-19 mask support in 2021.
Hope and Beyond Foundation held its first meeting on 30th October 2021. 19 widows turned up — a great sign that God was in it from the word go.
At Mbururia Garden in Kiambu County — celebrating widows as fathers in their families, sharing testimonies and thanking God for His amazing grace.
God is the father to the fatherless. We took widows' children for a special outing and mentorship day — they learnt and had a lot of fun.
Giving the emotionally pained widows a shoulder to lean on — a reminder that someone loves and cares for them.
In every meeting widows are given a gift package of food stuffs — a symbol that God took over in provision after the loss of their spouses.
We also hold group counseling for psychosocial support — helping widows navigate grief with care and community.
Founder’s Desk
Rediscovering yourself after the loss of your husband
The Founder's Desk is not here to shift attention away from the ministry. It is here because Hope and Beyond serves many women who are trying to live again after deep loss. This message belongs at the end of the story because it helps explain the heart with which the ministry walks beside them.
Rediscovering yourself does not mean forgetting your husband or pretending the loss is small. It means learning to live again while carrying love and memory with you, remembering that your identity is still rooted in God and not in what grief has taken away. Many widows begin to question their value, purpose, and worth, yet God does not see them as diminished. He sees them as whole, precious, and deeply loved.
Losing a husband can feel like losing a companion, shared dreams, and an imagined future all at once. The ministry therefore speaks hope gently: you may not feel strong today, but the decision to keep living, praying, and showing up is already a sign of strength. This is the pastoral heartbeat behind our counseling spaces, support meetings, and shared testimonies.
"Since you were precious in my sight, you have been honoured, and I have loved you." — Isaiah 43:4
Susan Kamau's own journey gave this message weight. She had already spent years responding to need, including a porridge project for children in 2014 and practical support during COVID-19. She also faced serious health challenges, including multiple surgeries after an endometriosis diagnosis, and later endured a season of COVID-19 isolation. Watching her mother navigate widowhood, financial strain, and parenting pressure deepened her conviction that pain can carry purpose when surrendered to God.
That conviction shaped the ministry's story: loss does not cancel calling. The pain a widow carries can, in God's hands, become the place from which healing, wisdom, and testimony begin to flow to others. Late in 2021, Susan brought a few widows together so that none of them would heal alone, and from that support system Hope and Beyond Foundation was born.
Susan Kamau serves as founder, wife to Pastor Elijah Kamau, and mother of four. Her story matters here only because it explains how the charity was born and why the ministry remains committed to walking with widows kindly, prayerfully, and with practical compassion.
"Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you."
— James 1:27
"Father to the fatherless, defender of widows — this is God, whose dwelling is holy." — Psalm 68:5
Loneliness is one of the greatest burdens for widows. We build genuine community through regular gatherings, mentorship outings, celebrating milestones like Father's Day together, and creating a sisterhood where no one walks alone.
